Take Charge!

I was talking with a close friend recently and somehow got to discuss how the world has come to that point where people want to take everything but responsibility. Of course being a lady, her bias was largely on men who just can’t act up to their responsibilities and obligations and to these, her words were simple; MAN UP!

To face the truth, most of us, and this doesn’t apply to only men, are living life depending on someone and tagging our progress and success to them. We let people control our lives, our programs and ultimately, our destinies while we fail to take responsibility for the direction our lives are taking. And when things go wrong, we are on the ready to apportion blame to whoever cares to listen. We’ll blame our background, our parents, siblings & relatives, our education, our economy, our banks, our work colleagues, the politicians and yes, the government! As a result, things never get done simply because someone has forfeited responsibility for a particular action and let nature 9or the weather) take its course. Disaster follows.

I believe it’s high time every one of us took charge of their lives and the direction they are taking, whether it be work, education or personal life. You can’t expect to blame people all the time for things yet you could have done something about it. We ought to remember that the world never remembers complainers but they do remember people of action.

And yes, whereas the government has an obligation to provide certain social services to her people, I have never heard of a billionaire whose fortune was entirely a result of government philanthropy. Every person can achieve their dreams and destiny against all odds if they choose to. This journey starts today, by taking charge of one’s life and taking full responsibility for everything that comes your way and steering it all in the right direction.
